About
Why The Small Chef
The Small Chef grew from more than twenty five years of cooking with young children in early childhood programs in Sonoma County, California. Again and again, children who scrubbed the carrots, shelled the peas and stirred the soup were the ones reaching for a second helping.
Research on young children's eating says much the same. Children's food preferences are still forming in the early years. Meeting a food many times, eating with others who enjoy it, and taking part in preparing it all help a child accept new foods, while pressure to eat tends to make it harder.
The recipes and guides here bring that practice home. They are written for families with children ages two to eight, for busy weeknights as much as slow weekends, and for any kitchen, with or without a garden.
